- Check your tyres regularly. If your tyres are not firm it takes more energy to turn them costing you more fuel
- Reduce the amount of breaking you do by leaving a larger gap between you and the vehicle in front
- Gentle acceleration using high gears requires less revs so saves fuel
- Switch off the air conditioning
- Don’t have things in the car you don’t need
- Remove items that cause wind resistance, such as luggage racks
- Turn off your car engine if in a traffic jam
- Avoid prolonged warming up of engine even on cold mornings
- Don't wash your car too often. Washing your vehicle in the winter is more important because salt on the roads causes corrosion
- Walk or cycle shorter journeys
- For longer journeys use public transport wherever possible
- Avoid flying abroad for your holiday
